James: Servant of Jesus

Apr 07, 2019

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ:

To the twelve tribes dispersed abroad.

Greetings.

James 1:1

I don’t know if you know this about me or not, but my brother works in the movie industry up in Atlanta GA. Atlanta is nicknamed the Hollywood of the South due to its movie production, and my brother works all over Atlanta as a camera grip. When my brother’s first film credit came out, our whole family was ecstatic. I am pretty sure not a soul in that movie theater left there without knowing that MY BROTHER had a credit in that movie!

The book of James was written by James the brother of Jesus. Yet instead of bragging boldly about his place as brother of Jesus, James introduces himself as servant. Humbly calling us to be servants as well.

On the day when I meet Jesus, no one will care how long I was a follower of Jesus, or that I read my Bible how many times. But Jesus will ask what I did in service of Him. Am I a servant? Or am I grasping at air trying to brag about my relationship with Him?
