The Best Apps for Bible Reading

Apr 01, 2019

When it comes to reading my Bible, I am a paper girl. I like a hard copy (preferably the same one every day, and this year I am LOVING the She Reads Truth Bible) but some times an app is easier, more convenient, or all I can manage to get to in certain situations.

The Best Apps for Bible Reading

There are so many apps out there, but I have a couple of go-to apps that I use regularly.

  1. OLIVE TREE BIBLE

The Olive Tree Bible is not only an app, but also a web app for your computer. I use this one for my deeper Bible study. You can purchase different Bibles, and it is similar to fancier software like Logos. I have a couple of different Bibles I have purchased in the app, and it allows me to jump easily between passages, cross reference easily, and have it synced between my computer and my phone. The only downside to this program is that you have to pay for Bibles that aren’t automatically loaded onto the app (there are some free Bibles already loaded) but it is a reasonable price for the ability to do a quick search.

2. READ SCRIPTURE

The Read Scripture app is developed by the Bible Project and I am a HUGE fan of the Bible Project. The Bible Project is a visual storytelling exploration of the Bible. The videos are interesting, informative, and short but pack in a ton of information about each book of the Bible. They even go into details about what is the Bible, different themes in the Bible, and even deeper word study. They have put all of this into an app that guides you through reading the whole Bible in a year, and it is an amazing resource. If you ever feel lost when reading the Bible straight through, this one is for you.

3. BIBLE MEMORY

If you have trouble with Bible verse memorization, or want some guided help with meditating on God’s Word, the Bible Memory app is for you. I use this app as I am going through chunks of Scripture that I am studying and it has been a huge help to my memorization of Scripture. It makes memory a game, and helps the words to stick. If it has been a while since you have tried to memorize some scripture, I challenge you to download this app and give it a try!

4. THE YOUVERSION BIBLE

The Youversion Bible app is definitely my favorite and most used app. It is an amazing, completely free resource that has just about everything. It has every version of the Bible you can think of, Bible reading plans, devotional plans, and so much more. You can search inside the app, highlight verses, and make verse images. If you are a goal oriented person, it will track your streak of how many days you have read the Bible using the app, and some churches even use it for you to be able to take notes during the services. I can’t recommend this app enough. If you don’t have it, you need to download it. And like I said, there is no reason not to because it is completely free!

What about you? What is your favorite Bible app?
