Background information is so important when it comes to Bible study! You need it to know how to appropriately read or study a book of the Bible.

When you are reading through the Bible, it can be helpful to have some resource recommendations so that you can understand the context of each individual book. Here are a few places to check for that context when reading or studying.

I have a growing list of resources for each book of the Bible. These short blog posts can help you understand where the books of the Bible fall in the larger story of Scripture.

How to Read the Bible Book by Book

This book is a FANTASTIC resource. It walks you through each book of the Bible with general background information, but also much-needed context. It cross-references other sections of Scripture well, and helps you pick up on imagery throughout the book you are reading or studying.

The Bible Project

The Bible Project has a series of videos on YouTube specifically designed to help you understand how to read each book of the Bible. This is a great way to get an overview of a book before you start reading.

These resources are a few of my favorites, but another great way to find a resource is to ask your local pastor. They will be able to guide you and help you take some next steps on your Bible study journey.
